I
was born September 21st, 1974 in Edmonton, Alberta. I currently
reside in Calgary, Alberta with my wonderful husband, Trevor, and
two beautiful kids, Kamden (born February 25, 2001) and Simon (born
July 24, 2002). Life is never boring being a stay at home mom (aka
Domestic Engineer).
I swam for the N.A.I.T. swim team during the 1995/96 season. Other
than that, I have never felt that I was a very active individual.
In fact, I felt that I wasn't very good at sports. I graduated from
N.A.I.T. in 1996 with a diploma in Office Administration. Shortly
there after, I started working a "desk job". I met my
future husband in the fall of 1996. We got married in April of 1998
and I moved to Calgary to start our new life together. After being
married a few years and not really watching my diet and avoiding
any sort of exercise I managed to balloon up to 180 lbs. In my head
I thought I looked ok, but the truth is that I was unhappy with
myself. The summer of 2003 I decided I don't want to live my life
feeling like this anymore (after all I was lucky enough to have
a great husband and two happy little kids). I joined Weight Watchers
that September. By December 30th, 2004 I received my lifetime membership
award. I was down to 140 lbs. I never felt so good about myself.
I was proud of my huge accomplishment.
Exercise had become a part of my life. I would pack the kids up
rain or shine (or snow blizzard) and take them to the gym with me
at least 5 days a week. Other gym members noticed my transformation
and would ask what I was competing for. At the time, I knew nothing
about body building/figure competitions. However, the more people
asked, the more I became interested in it and began doing some research
on the internet. I asked people at the gym, which I knew were competing,
questions about the sport. The more I learned about it the more
fascinated I became. Then I decided that I would do my first competition
in 2005. I found a trainer (Bernadine Wallace) that has helped me
develop a training program and diet. I had a good five months to
put on some muscle mass before I started my competition diet on
January 8th, 2005. It has been very challenging, but also rewarding.
I love the results I am seeing. I am looking forward to stepping
on stage for my first competition on April 30th, 2005 in Kelowna.
...2005
has come and gone and I competed in my first Figure competition
at the end of April 2005 and came in a disappointing 11th place.
After all the hard work with the dieting and lifting weights, I
was pretty upset with my placing. But life goes on...after some
careful consideration I decided that I would tackle the whole 16
weeks of dieting once again and compete in the Muscle Beach Fall
Classic on November 5th in Edmonton, but this time in bodybuilding.
Things the second time around seemed to be a bit better since I
knew what to expect, however dieting in the summer is a lot tougher
than I thought it would be. November 5th came and went...I came
in 6th out of 9th, which was fine with me. I was content with this
placement.
2006 is going to be the year where I accomplish big things. I have
decided to leave the world of Figure/Bodybuilding...I am glad that
I tried it, but it's not for me:( My husband has inspired me to
give triathlons a try. I have a few things planned for this year
including my first Marathon (26.2 mile run) on May 7th in Vancouver
and my first IronMan (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile
run---all in one day) in Coeur D'Alene, ID on June 25th, 2006. I
am also going to be doing a Half IronMan on July 22nd, 2006 in Sylvan
Lake. In between these big races I do have quite a few small things
planned just to keep me on track.
I am very excited for what this year holds for me and can't wait
to get started with the race season...till then I am training hard....2006
is going to be my year:)
